A watchable horror movie with a horrible title...
10 October 2020
Granted, I sat down to watch the 2014 movie "Paranormal Island" without ever having heard about it. I stumbled upon it here in 2020 and saw that it was a horror movie that had Lance Henriksen on the cast list. So of course I was intrigued, and needed no persuasion sitting down to watch it.

Well, I must say that writer and director Marty Murray didn't really manage to spew out a horror movie that was particularly outstanding or impressive. Sure, "Paranormal Island" was watchable, but it was by no means a memorable movie. And if you look aside from the dubious title, the movie can be watched.

The storyline was average, at best. But it was just painted with a thick layer of predictability, which did drag the movie down in its overall entertainment value.

The special effects in "Paranormal Island" were not impressive. I have seen far worse effects though, but don't expect to be dazzled by a display of overwhelming special effects and CGI here in this movie.

The cast was actually adequate, but Lance Henriksen was a mere supportive actor in this movie. So having his face and name on the movie's cover was just a ruse to lure in the audience. He was not in the movie very much actually. So that was disappointing.

For a horror movie, then "Paranormal Island" was just mediocre.

I am rating the movie a four out of ten stars. I wasn't overly impressed, but the movie was watchable. However, this is by no account a movie that warrants more than a single viewing.
