Intelligent idea, a little laboured, risks hagiography.
14 October 2020
This film-literate polemic has lots of salacious detail on the real- life subject. The picture painted credits the man with guile and an insatiable drive, even seems to suggest he'd got a lot of his MAGA program done before COVID-19 set in which is debatable. The comparison with the Hearst-like creation of Orson Welles is mildly interesting but unfortunately risks adding faux humanity and sliver screen dust to him, and sympathy for his personal psychodrama. Like we don't all have our Rosebud. Still, the theory is that the pandemic asked for qualities he didn't have for a change, i.e. not scrambling to the top of the pile. This is 2020, it's just been written, so time will tell how he, indeed we all get along!
