It's worth looking for this film if you like WW II themes and true-life stories. It's a love story in the traditional sense and in a great realm, as the love and care of the Italians who risked their lives to help save Eric's is a big part of the film. It is based on Eric Newby's book (and real life experience) Love and War in the Apennines, documenting how he and his squad were released from an Italian prison and took shelter in the mountains to evade the German occupying forces. It was Wanda's father and his family and resistance contacts who helped Eric hide, a compelling story in itself, but he fell in love with Wanda and eventually had a happily-ever-after that lasted many decades. Eric and Wanda Newby participated in the Hallmark movie's making, filmed in Italy.
