Underrated dacoit drama.

Dacait review :

An underrated dacoit drama by director Rahul Rawail; Dacait has fantastic performance from Sunny Deol in the titular role and some excellent cinematography. Still, it didnt create any ripples at the box office when released. Interestingly, it was re-released at Sunny Deol's career peak in mid 90s as Faulaad and I had seen it in theatre at that time.

Sunny Deol plays Arjun, an educated guy who returns to his village only to find it being terrorised by cruel zamindar Raza Murad and corrupt cop Paresh Rawal. When his brother Suresh Oberoi tries to object to the tyranny, his entire family is wiped out in front of Sunny's eyes. Its quite a harrowing scene where Maa Rakhee is shaved bald and made to dance on drums even as Sunny's sister Urmila is openly molested by Zamindars goons.

Sunny picks up the gun and the rest of the film traces his vengeance as well as act of redemption. Meenakshi Seshadri played Sunny's love interest and they shared some cozy moments in a rain drenched song. Anita Kanwar was impressive as the doctorni who saves Rakhee. Raza Murad was effective as the main villain. Paresh Rawal was super chilling as the corrupt cop. His entry scene itself, creates a solid impact.

Overall, Dacait was a well executed film which sadly, didn't get its due. It easily ranks amongst Sunny's best performance. His fans shouldnt miss it!!
