Blue Ridge (2020)
4/10
Shallow investigation flick with little violence and drama.

The rivalry between two old families is on a stalemate, but reignites when the daughter of one family's head is found dead. It is all up to Sheriff Justin Wise and his team to investigate and find answers.

Imagine like you are watching an extended episode of Hawaii Five-0 (2010)... this is how watching this movie felt to me. I believe this feeling comes from a mixed-bag of elements.

The acting is subpar, but it's not the trash subpar you see on cheap horror movies. As aforementioned, it feels more like those cheap investigation series like CSI: Miami (2002), full of weird acting, punny jokes and robotic action sequences. This leads to characters' stereotypes, because, again, it's like in those series: you have the comedic-relief character, the cute girl and the tough-as-nails boss... way too surreal.

The soundtrack feels off. It just does not blend well with the scenes. Way too generic and over the top heroic-like.

The plot lacks more suspense. I went into this movie eager for a nice crime thriller, but it's just way too childish. Even Law & Order (1990) has a darker tone to its investigation. It had its twists and turns, but by that point, it felt rushed.

This feels like one of those movies you'd end up watching without much thought while your dad scrolls down the TV channels. It definitely is one your parents would allow you to see.
