Incognito (1958)
On the FBI's secret service.
7 December 2020
A secret agent ,working for the FBI ,comes to France to break up a gang who manufactures fake dollars;his boss makes him pass off as a vice-consul, so he las elbow room. The screenplay includes fighting ,abduction and hostage-taking, problems with the French police who often consider him a suspect :diplomatic immunity helps;however ,the police have to be very gullible to believe that Constantine is a genuine diplomat.

The French and Italian Riviera landscapes are beautiful (but filmed in black and white, alas) ,the hero's comments in voice over are witty ;but directing is listless, relying on the star 's punch .The story is never really absorbing :only the final sequences ,in a disused warehouse with service elevator provide the viewer with exciting stuff....for those whose taste runs that way.
