Lupino Lane Needs No Second Banana
10 December 2020
Here's Lupino Lane in Dumas country. He plays a D'Artagnan-like youngster who gets involved in..... well, nonsense. Really. It's all an excuse for two set-piece skits. In the first, he's in a wine cellar, trying to fill some cups for the tavern above deck. To say it's funny is trivial. After a lifetime as a silent comedy fan, it takes a very funny sequence and an audience of laughing people to get me to laugh out loud. Looking at this skit alone at home, I guffawed.

The other half is an exercise in clown acrobatics, as Lane vanishes through hidden doors, reappears tumbling through sliding panels, in an astonishing display I have have seen the like only once before: in Lane's JOYLAND.
