A Convoluted Mess
15 December 2020
This film begins with aliens sending one of the agents by the name of "Dr. Odo Warnoff" (Michael Rennie) to the earth with a plan to exterminate the entire human population to make room for those from his dying planet. To do this a plan has been formulated to revive certain monsters which the world regards as myths but have a basis in reality. Assisting him are two other aliens by the names of "Dr. Kerian" (Angel del Pozo) and "Maleva Kerstein" (Karin Dor) who inhabit the bodies of two people recently deceased. Yet, even though they are indeed successful in resuscitating a vampire, mummy, werewolf and a creature similar to Frankenstein's monster, what the aliens don't realize is that by inhabiting human bodies they also become affected by human emotions as well-and this circumstance greatly jeopardizes their mission here on earth. Now rather than reveal any more I will just say that this film turned out to be a convoluted mess which suffered from bad editing, a hurried plot and poor audio technique. On that note, from what I understand some of the difficulty had to do with maintaining adequate finances for the film while it was being produced. Yet, as poorly made as this film turned out to be, there is an American version known as "Dracula vs. Frankenstein" which in some cases is 10 minutes shorter and even more incomprehensible. In short, other than the acting of Michael Rennie and the presence of several attractive actresses like Patty Shepard (as "Ilsa Sternberg"), Gela Geisler (as the beautiful kidnapped apprentice "Ilona") and the aforementioned Karin Dor, I didn't see anything of interest in this movie and I have rated it accordingly. Below average.
