Review of Seinfeld

Seinfeld (1989–1998)
5/10
Doesn't hold up well for me after 20 years

In my early 20s I thought this show was about neurotic old 30/40 year olds who were just losers in life so I never tuned in, but that's exactly what it was meant to be. In my 30s I gave it a second shot and found it funnier, but after binging this show again during the pandemic I am shocked to see how offensive the underlying topic(s) really was. They find a way to make each offense topic so over-the-top is so absurd you can't help but to chuckle uncomfortably to yourself, but saying things like "it's ok if you are" or "I have nothing against it personally" doesn't make the aforementioned joke(s) acceptable.

I saw Jerry Seinfeld doing stand up in Chicago several years ago and I wished Banyan was the comic instead of Jerry. His live act was no different than the pre-show monologue at the beginning of his tv show; unfortunately, there wasn't a supporting comedian to make him funny. Both Jerry and Larry David have become so rich they don't care if they bomb or actually tell a funny joke.
