Refreshingly different

Warning: Spoilers
It's fun to see a coming of age story with female protagonists who are not obsessed with boys, makeup or looking pretty. While not as funny as it could have been, this movie is one of the few female centric teen films I've seen with distinct, empowered female characters who barely talk about boys and truly find new ways to relate to others, themselves and one another. There are no gratuitus sex scenes or female nudity, no cliché shopping mall scenes or pillow fights or hypersexualized and objectified female characters. The plot might not be brilliant and it may not be a super deep character exploration, but it's certainly refreshing in a surprisingly natural and fun way. The ending is not shocking but it's much more realistic and down to earth than most Hollywood comedy endings. I wish there were more blockbuster movies like this, it would do our world a great deal of good.
