Action Success
20 January 2021
As far as action films go, Assassination Games is really quite decent. The first twenty minutes suggest that it's going to be another sub-par B-film, but beyond this the tempo builds, the story develops and the characters flourish. So, the setup is a bit monotonous, but it pays out.

All the characters are fairly stereotypical, and the contract/revenge storyline isn't the most original, but it's executed well. JCVD is great, the choreography of the fights are performed very well, and the supporting cast all play their roles to a high enough standard.

It does seem that with these types of films, if based in Eastern Europe then a beige filter is put over everything. Is it to make it look dirtier? More edgey? It's unnecessary, blue skies do exist there too. But you get over this, and can appreciate everything that is on screen.
