The Day After Tomatoes.
24 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Okay, so there are no tomatoes, but if there had been, they would have been pelting the writers of this "Day after Tomorrow" rip off. Once again, we have a family that we automatically hate, a father too obsessed with his job, a daughter too obsessed with her contraptions, a mother too obsessed with being the perfect mom (this never listening to her husband) and the only sensible member, a young son who always tries to do the best thing.

Before you can say, "There goes the Arctic divide", the north pole is being ripped off its foundation by underwater volcanoes. That affects the North American east coast within hours and heads quickly to New York City where the family is trying to get to to reach their daughter who just left for college there.

If you can get through the opening scene at the airport without laughing, then maybe you can stomach the hideous dialogue and cliched premise and cardboard character cutouts, none of whom you'd want to be trapped with during any type of world emergency. The phoniness of modern movie makers becomes transparent as the lazy ideas reveal themselves.

One of the challenges I have with films from the Asylum is watching more than half an hour without fast forwarding to the action parts, but this one actually did keep my interest, mainly because it was so hideously bad I couldn't help looking at it as a disaster spoof. A plot twist about manneur becomes a metaphor for the film as a whole.
