Game of Thrones: The Long Night (2019)
Season 8, Episode 3
1/10
...and could have been Hardhome

Warning: Spoilers
I'm a big fan of Game of Thrones and I think the first four seasons are untouchable, the fifth and sixth were still good, the seventh was too commercialized, but what happened in the eighth is really sad. The series became completely trivial and strongly declined the standard of quality of episodes. Here's my look back at this long awaited Game of Thrones episode The Long Night that broke all records of popularity.

The visuals of the episode were very likely flawless and the episode shamed some movies with its appearance, however, all this in vain when so many other things make absolutely no sense.

Why I'm so dissapointep with this awful piece of @#!/?

Let's see:

  • needless deaths (i'm particularly annoyed by Theon's death, I think it would have been good if he'd killed Night King to complete his redemption, but unfortunately the writers thought it wise for him to start running into Night King out of the blue expecting to kill him, a wasted character)

  • the whole battle is in the dark, I understand what they wanted to accomplish, but because of this I wouldn't understand what's going on so I could hardly regret some of the characters if they died

  • I don't understand who's killing who, similar to the problem with Beyond the Wall, only that episode was a lot better than this one after all

  • screenplay so bad I don't know if I'd laugh or cry

  • all the scenes with Night King were very grainy as if someone was magning them with a cell phone

  • I no longer feel like no one is safe, as in many blockbusters today, in Game of Thrones unfortunately all disbelief has become a lie. Robb, Catelyn and some of the other characters made mistakes and cried, but in this episode no one who made a mistake died but everyone got away with it, those characters who shouldn't have died like Jorah Mormont or Theon Greyjoy. I mean, why did Arya throw away that thing where there were zombies in the room

And for end, a synopsis: This episode is so long expected that it comes to me to cry when I see the final product, an episode that is completely unreasonable, a bad script and unexplained situations. This episode ruined eight years of building the world, character development, action, and loads of tension. This could have been Hardhome, The Spoils of War, Blackwater, Battle of B***ards or some other great battle episode but unfortunately, this is an overblown and outgrown battle that is unsightly. I just can't be enough of a wonder (in the bad way) how much the quality level has declined since The Winter is Coming.
