Entertaining low budget horror movie
1 March 2021
A family of 3 were camping in the woods in France when a tall. hairy manlike animal attacks them viciously, leaving no survivors. Just before Ms. Porter dies she reports that the hideous animal ate her husband and son right in front of her eyes. During the investigation, the local authorities concluded that a tall man living in the woods is responsible for the death of the Porter family. Defense attorney Kate Moore (AJ Cook) will do anything to defend her client's rights but the evidence is overwhelming and she starts having seconds thoughts. As a huge fan of horror movies i wanted to give this one a go. Wer is a very low budget movie and that becomes obvious from the very first minute of the film. I got to admit that I didn't like the first half of the movie. It seems to me that they weren't clear if they wanted to go with horror or trial genre with Wer, at least in the first part of the movie. The first 30 minutes will probably bore you with long conversations between the defense attorney and the inspector. There are also some news reports about the case that seem out of place. Leaving that aside the movie does a decent job even for a low budget film making you feel uncomfortable when watching Talon's scenes. I must say the actor that portrays him steals the show and even without special effects he seems very real and intimidating. The movie shines in the second part where the tone becomes darker, scarier and hopeless. The deaths are quite gory and the werewolf seems an unstoppable force of nature. The element of the werewolf infecting another one ads a nice touch to the movie. Overall Wer is a decent low budget horror movie that will entertain you for a chilled afternoon.
