My Opinion is that it's entertaining, and all/most of the youtubers/streamers in it are hilarious. Anyways, here's the re-cap of the story!
After looking at the reviews on the dream SMP IMDB page, I've noticed that it's 50/50 between kids leaving a 10/10 review on this page because they think it's funny, and old people leaving a 1/10 because they don't think it's an interesting show, or they don't understand the overarching storyline because they haven't watched enough of it. I'm here to be critical, but also to give a short recap of the storyline and it's smart writing. And of course to rate it 7/10 because it's what the professionals do!
The dream SMP was started by youtuber Dream with his friends Sapnap and GeorgeNotFound as a fun way for Minecraft youtubers to play together on a server, and now has a script, over 20 characters with intense lore, and even an IMDB page! The server was normal until Tommyinnit, or Thomas Simons as he is called on the cast list, decided to burn down friendly server member Punz's tree and try to kill Dream (the owner of the server). This inspired Dream to have a villainous character, and for Wilbur Soot to make an entire nation (L'manberg) to progress the story.
The server slowly admitted more members, and as they did the lore became far more extensive. The main storyline at this period of time was that of L'manberg, and the ownership of it. Wilbur spot created the country as a refuge for european youtubers from the mainly American server owners, Dream Sapnap and GeorgeNotFound. The country consisted of Wilbur Soot, Tommyinnit, Tubbo, Eret and Fundy. Under the rule of Wilbur spot, the country was a near-autocratic system, with Wilbur Soot as life-long dictator. The country was fine with this, and proceeded to strengthen their nation with a flag, walls around their territory, and strong tools and armour. This was heavily opposed by Dream and his friends, and the main storyline was the fights between the two civilizations.
As more players joined, including who is arguably the greatest minecraft player ever Technoblade, the nation of L'manberg seemed to reign supreme. but people began to question the legitimacy of Wilbur Soot'a intentions as ruler. This led to an election with one party running, consisting of Wilbur and Tommyinnit. It looked like the country was going to have a one-party system, until Quackity, a new member of the server, decided to run against him. Quackity believed that Wilbur spot wasn't fit to be the president, so he decided to run against him. This led to a new part of the story, the election.
The election was held in L'manberg with Carl Jacobs hosting. There were 3 original parties running: POG2020 (Wilbur and Tommy's party), SWAG2020 (Quackity and GeorgeNotFound's party), and Coconut2020 (Nihachu and Fundy's party). The three parties had endorsements, and announced them in the first debate. POG2020 endorsed youtubers Jshlatt and Vikkstar, SWAG2020 endorsed youtubers KSI and Jschlatt, and Coconut2020 endorsed Jshlatt and Eret.
On election night, these endorsements were supposed to be fulfilled. Nobody expected any of the endorsements to be true, but when it came to the actual election. One person came. Jshlatt appeared, and instead of choosing one of the three parties that endorsed him, he created his own, causing a ruckus at the election.
The election results showed that POG2020 had the most votes, with 45%, but they couldn't celebrate yet. Schlatt2020(16%) and SWAG2020(30%) combined their parties, and their votes, to win the election by 1%. This came as a shock for the entire nation, as nobody expected Jshlatt to appear, nevermind win the election. At his speech after the election was won, He said: ' My first decree, as the president of L'Manburg- The EMPEROR! Of this great country-! Is to REVOKE the citizenship of Wilbur Soot and TommyInnit! '
This led Wilbur and Tommy to create another nation called Pogtopia, situated in a ravine. The nation had many citizens, including Technoblade, Fundy, Nihachu and Tubbo. Wilbur and Tommy made Tubbo a spy, as he was high in the political system after the election. The country planned to take down the nation they once loved...
The red festival was a festival that Jshlatt hosted in L'manberg by Jschlatt, and he invited all members of the server, except Wilbur and Tommy. Tommyinnit and Wilbur Soot planned to go to the festival secretly, as they were not invited, and snuck in. In the festival, Jschlatt asked Tubbo to make a speech, but then boxed him up and revealed him to be a spy. Then, he asked Technoblade to assassinate him. Technoblade's weapon dealt damage in multiple directions though, and so accidentally killed Quackity and Jschlatt at the same time as Tubbo. This led Technoblade to kill as many people as he could, and leave. This led Tommy to be furious at Techno for killing his friend, Tubbo, but Wilbur Soot said that Techno had to kill him to mask the fact he was also plotting to overthrow the government.
The war between the two nations was quiet until the citizens of Pogtopia decided to rebel, and overthrow the government. This was easy, as Jshlatt died of a stroke in front of everyone, and they went to the podium to elect a new leader. TommyInnit recommended Tubbo as a president, and there was a verbal mutual agreement. Wilbur Soot left the area to do his own thing...
Wilbur went to a secret cave on the outskirts of L'manberg, with a button. From what he said, it was obvious the button would trigger an explosion that would destroy L'manberg. It seemed there was nothing more to be done, and the fate of the nation was in wilbur's hands only. But then Wilbur Soot's dad, Philza, logged on for the first time. He joined a call with Wilbur, and asked where Wilbur was. He replied 'you wouldn't know.' Philza logged on right behind him. It seemed Wilbur had been stopped from blowing up the whole nation. Wilbur said: 'IF I CAN'T HAVE THIS NATION NO-ONE CAN!'
He triggered the explosion, and asked Philza to kill him. Philza was reluctant at first, but then did. This caused the second actual death of the server, after Jschlatt's.
Meanwhile, Just before the explosion, Technoblade had a few things to say. He was furious at the government being created before him, as he had gone to extreme lengths to take down the previous one. He began to place TNT everywhere, and then Wilbur's TNT went off. It destroyed the surface, and technoblade just thought 'why not?' And spawned two of the strongest bosses in minecraft.
This led to tecnoblade being unofficially exiled, and still is as of when i'm writing this. The story hasn't ended, and will only get better from now on.
