Dark Souls (2011 Video Game)
4/10
You are better off playing Dark Souls 2 or Dark Souls 3.

Before I begin, let me say that I am not writing this to get a reaction out of some of you, nor am I hating a popular game to be quirky or whatever. This is my honest opinion, and like most opinions, it should be respected even if you disagree with it. Now with the review and I'll do my best to explain a few things.

This game feels like a chore to play. Walking everywhere in the first half of the game is extremely tedious, and that's mostly due to your character's sluggish movement speed. There are too many upgrade materials which makes upgrading your gear a little confusing.

A lot of your important actions are mapped to one button(the "B" button for XBOX users). You press this button to back-step(while standing still), you press this button to roll/dodge(while walking), you press and hold down the button to run, and to jump you press this button after running, but you are most likely to roll instead of jumping, and this will lead to many deaths. And if you combine this with your sluggish movement speed and you'll get very bad gameplay.(The worst thing about this game.

The areas in the second half of the game are poorly designed. The Tomb of the Giants area(for example) is an extremely dark area with little to no light sources. Your best bet is to a spell to use the cast light spell or use a lantern(which has a very low drop rate from non respawning enemies, or found somewhere in this terrible area).

Most of the boss fights are very mediocre, but the few good bosses are really fun to fight. Also the music for all of the bosses range from good to amazing.

The overall world design is very good. The atmosphere is both dreary and breathtaking. The connectivity between all the areas(both good and bad) is fantastic. The few friendly faces you will meet will stick with you until you finish the game.

And the story and lore is topnotch, and is the best out of all three Dark Souls games and maybe Demon's Souls, but I wouldn't say it's better than Bloodborne's story.

To conclude this review, Dark Souls is not the worst game I've played, but I cannot in good conscience recommend this to anyone, especially people who want to get into this series.
