All Rise (2019–2023)
6/10
Season one was good

I liked this Shows season 1. I don't remember why, probably because I liked the characters. Seeing what a judge does was a fresh take in the lawyer drama series for me. Lola is idealistic and wants to change the system and plays by her rules while she also struggles with justice. You get to know the cast and they all seem fine. I used to wait every next episode with anticipation.

2nd season... I dont know what went wrong but I don't like the characters as they feel uninteresting. Lola is absent because she has a baby that serves no purpose in the plot (probably the actress actually had a baby? I dont know). Some cases are interesting but without Lola the show falls short, as most other judges feel stupid (especially the male judges). The 2nd season does have an ongoing investigation along with the episodic struggles, which is very interesting. But giving that very serious case to a rookie ADA girl (Samantha Powell) is plain stupid, making me realize that it is a show that should not be taken too seriously.

The writers seem to struggle with the drama a lot. Lola was disappointment with her husbands absence but everything is okay when she got pregnant out of the blue. Sherri Kansky spent several episodes getting a boyfriend and we never see him again. Sara Castillo is pretty much useless so they shoehorn child abuse to make her relevant (she is the only one without a boyfriend or girlfriend). And the main two couples broke up at the same time for exactly the same reason! Yes, Mark Callan and Emily Lopez kissed other people and they make a huge deal out of it for several episodes! I mean...how old are they? I can stomach relationship quarrels in my TV shows but this is high school level drama. Something feels lost in the 2nd season and their personal relationships mean nothing to me. They seem to drag, than uplifting the story, as they exist solely for nagging purposes and nothing more than filler. It makes the series feel like a directionless soap opera, than a well respected legal drama.
