A very early turn in Richard Dreyfuss's career (he was about 20 when he did this), and a very strong one. As Lud, he oldest of three children, he has to take over when their mother (DIane Ladd)takes off and he tries to hide the fact that she is gone, but the Barkleys find out. They try to take them in but Lud will have none of it. It turns out he knows where his mother has gone and he goes to get her, but finds her working as a saloon girl. Shattered, he goes home to find he's implicated in the murder of a prospector, but even Jarrod can't get him to talk to defend himself.
Very strong acting all around, and it needed to be. This is a tough episode, well worth the watch.
