The inspiration for the main character seems to be from a real-life person with same first name and last initial, at least in the beginning. Late-night radio program based on paranormal, broadcast from nowhere in the desert? In the film, Arthur doesn't wear glasses, but Jimmy does... the frames look like the ones Art B wore. Aaron Eckhart also seems to have adopted Art's low, level affect of speech, to some degree. But that's where the similarities end. The film's character is more focused on conspiracies than the broader world of the paranormal, and is clearly portrayed as mentally ill, perhaps schizophrenic, and increasingly unhinged. As for plot, we've seen treatments of this before... but there was just enough intrigue to see it to the end.
