Daniel-Vanessa.... what a joke
24 April 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I watched the first episode and that was enough for me. I do NOT like how Vanessa is portrayed as a psychopath. She was so in love with someone who didn't want to take the next step so they made her character stupid and naive for proposing to him. I applaud Vanessa for having the confidence in herself and her relationship to be willing to propose in public to the man.

Daniel dragged her along for four years and didn't even care about her as she walks out of the restaurant upset. I'm all for people leaving when they're in unhappy relationships and standing up for themselves when they realize they don't love someone, but this was not done in a tasteful way.

Let's not pretend that if this was any man in the real world, we all would have scorned him running off with another woman (celebrity or not), not even an hour into breaking his girlfriends heart. The names we would call him and the things we'd all say. What an awful thing to do after breaking someone's heart.

There are also a lot of moments in the pilot where they reference Vanessa as crazy. It's fine if they want this to be about a crazy ex and Daniel was running for his life, but this was done in a very insensitive and degrading way.

The cast seemed great, but can Hollywood please hire better screen writers because between this and a lot of Netflix originals, they suck lately.
