It lacks the sophistication and charm it tries so hard to convey,

Don't waste your time with this vacuous and overly indulgent piece of wannabe art house drivel.

This movie wants to be charming, romantic, sentimental, and maybe a tad funny...but it fails to deliver on any of those fronts. While well-cast, the script is flat and soulless. The direction is two dimensional and heartless. That is to say this movie has no heart and has no soul.

Matt Walsh, whom I like, is a character whose initial introduction in way mirrors the seemingly obsequious sophisticate we are led to believe is supposed to be.

In an effort to be a progressive take on the classic 90s, even 00s, romcom, Under the Eiffel Tower fails mightily.

Even the comic relief in the form of an obnoxious Scottish former footballer is flat and unimaginative. This is the type of character meant to be to be an over-the-top, stereotypical misogynistic foil to Walsh's supposed sensitive, endearing, and earnest main character.

In the movie's effort to not offend it fails to entertain. This movie heavily features wine. Buy a cheap bottle, open it up, and sit back with a movie far more witty and interesting. It shouldn't be hard to find.
