The East (2020)

A bad attempt of a good movie

Warning: Spoilers
I think the film had some really good military/war scenes with some great lines and acting but the overall plot was just a mess. They made the plot somewhat psychological (some sort of bad attempt to recreate appocalypse now) but it was just cringe and predictable most of the time.

I think the overall character of Johan was really good and compelling. I REALLY disliked that there was some sort of ''hero'' type which they called, de Turk. That was just unnecessary. Eventually this guy somewhat became the bad guy and Johan later returns to him to take revenge. Eventually he will kill himself and a sort of happy Quentin Tarantino music will play. This was just an awful end which did not build up in the plot at all and the surprise element was not present.

I am Dutch myself and I hate to see that a movie was made to look like some sort of Hollywood blockbuster instead of an original approach.
