Review of Intergalactic

Intergalactic (2021)
Guns and more guns, shooting and more shooting.

I was able to watch this streaming via Xfinity's Peacock site. My wife and I watched the first episode, she left when one of the characters began to lick up blood on the floor. I watched the entire episode and wasn't very impressed. But I wanted to give it a fair trial so I also watched the entire second episode.

"Intergalactic" by its meaning involves travel to another galaxy. But to me that is just a trick to make the show seem more interesting than it is. The setting is 120+ years in the future, 2145 or so. Much of the world we know now was in ruins by then but nothing seems to be done to tear down the ruins. To travel to another galaxy either takes thousands of years, or you have to learn how to warp space and time. But the space ships in this future still have lots of wires and switches, not a very likely development. No explanation is given, we just have to trust they figured out a way to do it.

So what we see is very limited imagination of what the future will be like. But they sure have preserved the widespread use of handguns, the same kind we use today. And almost every scene has someone pointing a gun and threatening to kill one or more people. Plus all the characters are ugly and unlikable. A very dark dystopian future and viewers who like that might like this series.

But not for me, I will watch no more. The space travel is just a gimmick, the story is really about bad people and isn't substantially different from all the other TV series featuring bad people.
