We get to see what appears to be the baby in a blanket (complete with silly gurgling going on), but Lucy still isn't seen outside of the flashback to her club meeting where we get to meet Lillian Appleby and Marion Strong, long before Lucy told her to lay that egg. Lucy is upset when she's bypassed for every club office that opens, and somehow managed to get Lillian to nominate her for president to run against Ethel. Every other office only has one candidate, and Lucy has an excuse for not wanting it when she's not even mentioned as a candidate. "Nertz to Mertz" is Lucy's campaign slogan, while Ethel's is "Vote for a redhead, vote for a deadhead", with a little addition at the bottom that is even funnier.

So it's war between the two best friends, but the women in this club aren't exactly as loyal to each other as they pretend, starting with Lucy gossiping about Lillian. We then learn how Lucy got Lillian to nominate her in the first place. Both Fred and Ricky have their qualms about their wives being president, having earlier expressed their feelings about the gossiping that goes on. The vote comes down to a new member of the club, Ruth Knickerbocker, and this leads to the appearance of the delightful Ida Moore, the most adorable little old lady in screen history. Without saying a word, she steals the scene from the singing Ricky, that delightful gleam in her eye combined with a gorgeous smile making her one of the best cameos in "I Love Lucy" history.
