But definitely completely in the flavour and spirit of The Neverending Story, including a lot of stories based on the actual Novel (which includes a whole lot more than any of the movies ever covered; I strongly recommend reading it.
Neverending Story is not a "sweet, saccarine" story; it is quite dark and puts the preteen characters in it in serious peril and dilemmas that could break an adult facing the same situation, but it's a testament to the resilience, ingenuity, responsibility and bravery of kids that is so often denied these days. The story is as lush and beautiful as the visuals, which are fairly faithfully reproduced in this animated series.
