Mario Golf: Super Rush (2021 Video Game)
8/10
It's Mario and Golf, and it does quite well at that.

(Please note: this is a pretty early review of the game, and I do not have information or thoughts on everything included)

Mario Golf: Super Rush is fun. No, this is no perfect game. One problem off the bat is that the game is releasing at somewhat of a base line and getting free updates throughout the year. Although, I've played for a few hours, and I'm having a lot of fun. Not only is it Mario, as well as Golf, but the two somehow mix super well yet again.

Before I get to talking fast Luigi, I wanted to point out that the style of this game is excellent. The characters all have wacky, yet fitting sporty outfits, and the opening cutscene ROCKS. The entire soundtrack is super loud and jazzy, and it's fantastic. This game sold me at its reveal mostly due to how wonderful the styling was.

You can choose between just playing golf for fun with local, online, or with CPUs. There are a number of modes to choose from, including Standard Golf, Speed Golf, and Battle Golf.

Standard Golf is, well, golf, and pretty solid at that. It is definitely more technical than something such as Wii Sports Golf, but it's fun when you grasp some of the key skills. This as well as all the other modes have motion-controls (except the Story Mode, but I could be wrong).

Speed Golf is sorta the "gimmick" of the game. I say gimmick lightly because it's quite fun still. This isn't the first time that Nintendo has released a Mario Sports game with a subtitle that is loosely related to the kicker game mode. Speed Golf is a mode where rather than waiting your turn to hit the ball, you must chase it on foot and race your opponents not only for the fastest time, but of course, the least amount of strokes (please do not mind any possible discrepancies in my golf terminology). You have to manage Stamina, so you can get back to your ball, and use your Special Dash to get super speed or knock down opponents and slow them down. This one is pretty good. I will say that this one is harder to grasp, yet it remains possible that I am projecting my minimal golf knowledge and the fact that I suck at this mode, really bad.

I have yet to play Battle Golf, although it seems even more wacky and fast-paced compared to Speed Golf. I haven't got a lot of information to provide on this one, but it seems incredibly fun.

There is also a story, where you play as your Mii and progress through several worlds to become a pro golfer. I didn't have a lot of time to play this mode as I am writing this review, but it's definitely solid and I'm happy it was included.

There is still hopefully some more content coming along the way, because admittedly, it still needs extra flare, but this game is definitely worth it if it's at all appealing to you. Don't be totally distraught about this game because of some game blog reviewer who was upset that the story wasn't as compelling as Mario Odyssey. It's. Mario. Golf. Good game, 8/10.
