Where does evil come from? Why do societies turn to extremes to the point they end up losing their humanity? The movie is set before the rise of Nazism and it shows how the seed of evil is planted, how innocent children start to view the world through their parent's eyes and how the circle repeats itself. Fascism is strongly linked to authoritarian upbringing, all themes beautifully depicted in the movie. You can see the seed of evil being planted, how it stops empathy and compassion from developing, how it's viewed as weakness and how isolated in their own "world" the people of the village are.
