Series 8 Episode 11

Lewis Nelson enters a casino looking for his wife, Lorna. While there, he has to pay off a large debt she has amassed from gambling. Arthur arrives at his car lot and is informed the VAT man has been looking for him. Arthur sends Eric, an employee, off with a list of collections to make. Arthur meets up with Lewis Nelson, who is an old friend. Lewis wants to hire Ray to keep Lorna, his much younger and very attractive wife, away from the casino.

Eric is collecting black bags filled with used playing cards. He meets Joe, who works in a casino.

Joe fills a black bag with used cards and leaves it outside in the back alley for Eric to collect.

Later, a different man arrives in the alley looking for something near the bin, can't find it, and is scared off by an alarm sounding. A casino employee, Roger, phones his boss and tells him the safe has been broken into. Eric returns to Arthur's lock-up with the black bags. Arthur tells him to put the bags in boot of his car. Ray and Lorna have gone to Lewis's country house, away from the casino.

At the Winchester, Dave tells Arthur the VAT man is looking for him. Arthur flees to the country. Lorna tries talking Ray into going to town. He refuses. She tries to sneak out but Ray stops her. Arthur arrives, uninvited. Joe leaves the casino and is followed. Lorna, Arthur and Ray play roulette. Arthur demonstrates some talent. Lorna asks Arthur to go to the casino to play for her. They will use her money and she will stay home with Ray, not breaking her promise to Lewis. She offers a 50/50 split on any winnings. Arthur tells Ray he has brought the black bags filled with playing cards. He wants Ray to organise them into packs as he has a buyer for them. Lorna gives Arthur £500 and a system she uses to gamble. Joe is interrogated by a man about being seen at the back of the casino. He admits to slipping bags of used playing cards to someone who works for Arthur, who sells them on. The man reports this to two men, Roger and Lewis Nelson, but doesn't mention Arthur by name. Lewis tells the man to find him.

Arthur is at the casino gambling, but soon loses Lorna's system. At the house, Ray and Lorna play cards. She tells Ray that Lewis taught he to play poker but then he fell out with his partner at the casino so he no longer allows her to gamble there, but the owner gives her unlimited credit knowing Lewis will pay the debt. Arthur returns having made a profit. Lewis is informed the man buying the cards from the casino is Arthur. Lorna and Arthur plot another night of gambling. Ray opens another of Arthur's black bags and it contains £98,000 from the casino, which Eric must have collected by mistake. Lorna wants to return it but Arthur says people will wonder how they got it. Lewis goes to the Winchester looking for Arthur, telling Dave that Arthur has a bag that belongs to him and he wants it back. Dave says he will pass on the message.

At the lock-up, Eric hits the VAT man over the head with a potted plant. Dave phones Ray and tells him about Lewis Nelson looking for Arthur and his bag. The money is gone. Ray deduces Arthur took it with him. At the casino, Arthur is having bad luck. His behaviour catches Roger's attention. They ID Arthur and he calls Lewis. Ray and Lorna arrive at the casino and Ray tells Arthur the money belongs to Lewis Nelson, who stole it to get back all the money Lorna had lost at the casino, and knows Arthur has it.

Arthur admits to losing all the money gambling. As they leave they see Lorna gambling. Lewis arrives demanding the money. Arthur pretends he gave the money back to save Lewis from future trouble with the police and tells him Lorna is inside waiting for him. Lewis runs to Lorna as Arthur and Ray leave. Ray tells Arthur that Eric has hit the VAT man with a potted plant.
