Series 8 Episode 12

Arthur is trying to gain membership to a private golf club, as he sees the members as good business contacts. He tries to gain favour with the new club captain, the pompous Simon Perkins. While there he bumps into an old acquaintance, Previous, recently released from prison, who is caddying at the club. In the meantime, local gangster Denny Willis is looking for Arthur at his car lot. With no sign of Arthur, Willis has one of his men smash some windscreens as a calling card.

At the golf club Perkins meets with Major Beatty, the clubs senior member. The club committee push Beatty out of his position to make room for someone younger. Superintendent Roden tells D. S. Morley the accountants will be coming to look at their books and they need to show a loss in revenue so their budget isn't reduced the following year. Roden tells Morley to fetch Arthur Daley. Ray meets Lorraine, the clubs catering manageress and they flirt. Morley finds Arthur at the club and asks him if he wants to buy a police transport coach. Ray asks Lorraine out but Arthur interrupts and claims Ray is married.

Lorraine leaves.

Arthur and Ray view the police coach. Arthur plans to turn it into a 'Daley Tours' bus. Arthur tells Ray he has hired Previous, to create some 'teach yourself English' tapes to sell. Arthur agrees to buy the coach.

At his lock-up Denny Willis catches up with Arthur. He locks him in a storage cage. Apparently, Arthur had previously sold six facsimile four wheel drive kits to someone who, in turn, sold them to Denny and they broke. Denny tells Arthur he owes him £20,000 and wants his money by the afternoon. Previous and Ray arrive and Ray lets Arthur out of the cage. Denny and Ray talk and Denny leaves.

Arthur and Ray take the tour bus to the airport and load up with incoming tourists. The tourists are unimpressed with the tour and demand Arthur commentate as they drive. The bus breaks down. While Ray tries to fix the problem Arthur has all the tourists get off the bus and makes up stories about a statue nearby. Arthur cajoles the tourists into pushing the tour bus, which starts. Arthur takes them to the Winchester. Denny arrives with some men wanting his money from Arthur. One of Denny's men grabs Arthur, who tells the tourists it is part of the tour. Ray fights off Denny's men to the delight of the tourists. Denny is impressed, but tells Arthur he owes him, and leaves. Ray gets a call from Lorraine inviting him to the golf club. Outside, Denny approaches Ray and offers him employment. Ray dismisses it.

At the golf club Lorraine tells Ray that Previous told her the truth about Ray. She is happy he is single and needs his help. She has discovered Perkins is planning something for the club and she wants to check it out. Ray agrees to help after Perkins smugly interrupts them and tells Ray to stay away from the club. Superintendent Roden tells Morley the C. I. D. Boss handed in an expenses claim for vehicle maintenance, meaning someone told him the accountants were coming. Morley admits it was him after they were seen selling the coach to Arthur.

Roden tells Morley the claim is for too much money and they must buy the bus back from Arthur before anyone finds out they sold a police coach for next to nothing. And if he gets in trouble so will Morley.

Ray tells Arthur about Perkins' plan to take control of the golf club and sell the land to his own development company so he can build executive style homes. Arthur says he can't get involved. Morley arrives wanting to buy the bus back. Arthur has already sold it to Rambo. Morley wants Arthur to buy it back, so he can then buy it back from Arthur. Morley threatens Arthur, who relents. Arthur goes to Rambo and talks him into giving him the bus back for a refund. Ray, Lorraine and Major Beatty confront Perkins at the club about his planning application for Perkins company to develop the golf course.

Arthur and Ray return the bus to the police. An accountant pushes Morley as to why he needed the bus but Arthur steps in to spare Morley from trouble.

At the gold club Arthur joins Ray, Lorraine and Major Beatty for a drink. Arthur tries to take some credit for helping save the club. Previous shows up and plays Arthur some of his tape recordings.

Arthur chases him outside the club. Denny and his men are waiting. Arthur says he doesn't have the money but Denny says Rambo told him Arthur made money from the bus sale. Lorraine tells Ray Arthur runs his life. He denies it but hears Arthur calling for him and runs over. Ray jumps to Arthur's rescue, but it is seven against one. Ray doesn't back down. Denny respects Ray's loyalty. Denny tells Arthur to pay him £1,000 and he will call it quits.

Major Beatty tells Arthur he'd be happy to finalise Arthur's membership but he needs to play a round of golf first. Arthur scoffs at the idea. Ray asks Lorraine out again, and even though she wants to, says Ray's devotion to Arthur is not good for him. She tells him he saved the golf club and leaves.

Having both not got what they wanted, Arthur and Ray go for a drink.
