Warning: Spoilers
But that was about it. I don't usually write a spoiler review but this one. Requires it to get my thoughts out. The story is one of interesting ideas, we begin with some blurred family problem ending up in a wreck involving the main character Pip, his brother (who is killed) and his drunk father who caused it. Pip ends up on the street living amongst street people where he meets 2 other main characters, Clarke (A gay rent boy) and a girl (An aspiring street social worker). We are also introduced quickly to Pip's grandfather through a recorded cassette delivered to Pip by his estranged father on his 18th birthday where we get to see, in flashbacks, a story about WW2 where the grandfather was lost in the woods with another wounded soldier whom he cares for, takes care of, and seemingly develops affection for. Resulting some very emotional and sad scenes. We also get to know briefly a frustrated Gay priest whom befriends Pip and with whim Pip shares the troubles we finally learn about his family. Likewise, a wonderfully sweet shopkeeper who is in love with Clarke who doesn't deserve him imo. This storyline is my favorite and had it been a movie about that alone I think it would have been excellent. Likewise I love the war story flashbacks, also which would have been an excellent movie on it's own.

I near zero sympathy or much interest in the tired PIp storyline with his street girl saving him from the streets and offering redemption. There's only about a3 thousand of those films out there. My problems with the movie are too many missed marks. There's near no nudity, unless you consider an overweight drunk john and so that bit of extra remembrance for the film is wasted. , ( a little T&A factor). It tries to do too many things and tell too many stories with not enough time for it as another review said. I agree in full. It does end on a "Happy ever after probably" note for Pip and Clarke and the shopkeeper. Which I guess is something. I guess in the end, it just could have been a LOT more than it turned out to be, still the ideas were engaging and a couple of the stories keeping my attention. It's a 6.5 to me, but I round up instead of down in my ratings. Certainly worth having in my collection, and don't regret hunting it down and buying the DVD for my collection.
