The cliffhanger from the previous season finale is discarded like a piece of used tissue and we are given some nonsense about it all being a dream Scully has, because she can predict the future. Really?
The episode itself is abysmal. Nothing really happens in it. It's just a lengthy recap of previous events, before discarding them. Mulder has a needlessly long car chase that seems completely against the nature of the show. And about half the episode seems to be Mulder narrating what he does and thinks via monologue - the laziest exposition technique and one that was never used before on the X-Files.
This is worse than all episodes of the previous season. In fact it's one of the weakest across all 11 seasons.
