An explosion of new synthetic experimental fuel creates a huge tornado that destroys everything in its path. It's up to intrepid ex-firefighter Scott Nylander (an admirably sincere performance by Casper Van Dien) and a group of environmentalists to figure out a way to stop the blazing tornado before it completely obliterates Los Angeles.
Director keeps the enjoyably inane story hurtling along at a quick pace, treats the silly premise with jaw-dropping seriousness, and stages the fiery mayhem with rip-roaring aplomb. The game cast play the asinine material with straight faces: Lisa Ciara as the sweet Carla, Johnny Hawkes as jerky coward Jason, Leah Bateman as the perky Barbie, Jon Mack as ruthless mercenary V, Jeff Clarke as helpful synthetic fuel expert Anthony, Bryan Rasmussen as no-nonsense fire chief Logan, Joe Regalbuto as crooked CEO Mitch, and Brandy Redd as pesky reporter June. The dodgy super cheapo (far from) special effects are a hilariously horrible marvel to behold. Moreover, a dopey conspiracy subplot gets tossed in for goofy good measure, plus several folks are burned to a crisp and plenty of stuff blows up real good. A total schlocky hoot and a half.
