Lawyer Man (1932)
6/10
Powell light court drama
30 July 2021
Anton Adam (William Powell) is a little guy lawyer in a poor part of New York with his secretary Olga Michaels (Joan Blondell). Most of his clients don't even speak english. He is surprised when rich lawyer Granville Bentley offers him a partnership in his firm. He gets entangled with devious actress Virginia St. Johns in a case against Dr. Gresham.

There is a lot of plot going on with an hour long movie. That's the length in those days but the flow feels rushed. I want more chemistry between Powell and Blondell. They need time to develop. They need more time for everything. It's a lot of twist and turns. It's also all Anton's own fault falling for a pretty blonde when you already have a pretty blonde. It's a fine pre-Code light drama but it's not excelling.
