Vintage Scifi about usual extraterrestrial invasion with intrigue , thrills , suspense and traditional but effective special effects . Stunning and state-of-the-art , at the time, special effects by the great Ray Harryhausen enhance the familiar Fifties script about invasion from outer space .It is a well-paced, tightly made effort without the chintzy, rushed look so common in much of Fred Sears' output.

Being well financed by quickie producer Sam Katzman because he knew how to bring in films on time and under budget. Those were two major considerations for a low-buck producer like Katzman, who released through Columbia, and for him Sears made juvenile-delinquent crime films, rock musicals, action thrillers and sci-fi "epics". As Fred F Sears gives Earth vs. The Flying Saucers (original title 1956) a smooth and professional direction , elevating this near classic status . This one results to be generally considered an above average sci-fi classic , which--in addition to containing superb special effects by the legendary Ray Harryhausen . It's somewhat ironic that another sci-fi picture is also considered to be Sears' worst : The Giant Claw (1957), a clunky mishmash with hilariously awful special effects , in fact the "giant claw" turns out to be a spectacularly inept marionette that looks like a mutant turkey. Sears was an artisan who directed all kinds of genres as Western , Wartime , Drama , Thriller , such as : Ambush at Tomahawk Gap , El Alaméin , Teenage Crime wave, Bonanza Town , Rumble on the Docks , Don't Knock the Rock , Escape from San Quentin , among others .
