Review of What If...?

What If...? (2021– )
5/10
Interesting but unnecessary, strange and bad paced expansion of the Marvel Cinematic Universe/Multiverse

What if ...? Is a Marvel animated series and the fifth installment of the Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series addresses the titular question "What if ...?" and some key MCU events have been changed.

First of all, I like the decision according to which this series is the official canon of the MCU considering how the borders of the Multiverse have been broken in Loki.

As for the first episode itself, let's say it was medicore and pretty strange. It had a bunch of cheesy dialogues, but otherwise it was quite interestingly designed. Personally, I think it could have turned out much better if it had lasted for a full hour because everything seems a bit too hasty like this, so, it's bad paced.

The animation is to me amazing. I have a feeling like they were filming real people with a camera and then just put on some filter. The characters are well-designed, and I especially liked the Watcher as some kind of omniscient being, some kind of maybe even a god of the MCU, or rather the MCM (Marvel Cinematic Multiverse) now.

And another big complaint. Despite some events being altered, everything is actually the same, but in some strange and twisted way. And above all, the whole series is to be honest in this way as it is conceived PRETTY UNNECESSARY AND POINTLESS. If we look at it that way, who cares what it would be like if Carter replaced Cap.

For the continuation of the series, I hope that they will decide to include a slightly more intriguing plot, such as a situation in which The Watcher will eventually have to save the entire Multiverse from some villains like Mephistopheles or Galactus because it may add some meaning to the series. Since I'm not too familiar with comics, what I do know is that they contain some really cool characters like Beyonders so it would be nice to see them in this series that might have the potential to teach us more about the structure of everything.

And finally I want to say that I will definitely come forward with my opinions at the end of the season and ultimately the series.
