Review of Lazarus

Titans: Lazarus (2021)
Season 3, Episode 5
8/10
Finally a decent one

As a character study, this was a good episode, Hill knows how to write Jason, he wrote all the best episodes with him in this show. He managed to create a powerful story that makes sense (kinda) in the context of Jason's betrayal. I keep my opinion that the show tends to exaggerate Jason's inaptitude, the scene with him and the guy who kidnapped kids shouldn't happen to a Robin but at least the story was half-decent.

That being said, it had its flaws and they're worth mentioning. I cringed at some lines that it hurt me inside. "He's brown so the cops don't care about him"? "Batman protects rich people"? Disgusting, I expected better from Bryan Edward Hill. He isn't usually a race-baiter but I guess he got with the program recently and where the hell does this idea that Batman fights for the rich comes from? It really isn't the case but this show goes out of its way to make Batman a jerk. Also, how is there a Lazarus pit in Gotham that Batman doesn't know about but Scarecrow does? That doesn't make a lot of sense now, does it? And I would have done without the brainwashing angle, that's pretty cheap. And without the overuse of stupid music but that's par for the course for Titans by now.

All in all the best episode so far so expect the next one to be about Blackfire's backstory or something else no one asked for, it's the habit of this show to come up with a bad episode after a good one.
