Escape from New York (1981) is a movie I recently watched for the first time in a long time off HBOMAX and is also in my DVD collection. The storyline takes place in the future, 1997, when New York has been turned into a prison. One day the president's plane crashes in New York and the largest gang holds him hostage. A convicted robber is sent in to save him and will need to fight his way in and out of the city to have any chance of accomplishing his mission. This movie is directed by John Carpenter (The Live) and stars Kurt Russell (Tango & Cash), Lee Van Cleef (The Good, The Bad and the Ugly), Isaac Hayes (I'm Gonna Git You Sucka), Ernest Borgnine (Marty), Donald Pleasence (Halloween), Tom Atkins (The Fog) and Adrienne Barbeau (Creepshow). The storyline and concept for this movie was so innovative, unique and action packed. Their depiction of New York was awesome. Isaac Hayes was a great villain and as you can tell by the cast every character was well executed and delivered. The props and weapons were also very good as were the fights and action sequences. Snake is such a well delivered character and easy to root for...a villain that is also a hero. His one-liners are classic. The ending keeps the audience at the edge of their seats right till the credits. Overall this is a classic gem that is worth your time that I'd score a 9/10.
