Explained: Dance Crazes (2021)
Season 3, Episode 11

Not the episode I was hoping for
3 October 2021
This was an incredibly misleading, poorly done episode. First, there needed to be more said about the history of dance around the world. There are cultures still performing dances that are thousands of years old - some of those dances needed a moment of celebration. Their true goal here was to talk about viral hip hop dance crazes in the US, while ignoring the influence of every other culture in this country besides African American. Other cultures like Hispanic, Caribbean, Mediterranean, Indian have all have influenced the way we move, yet they are completely ignored. Then, you are made to feel bad about yourself for appreciating the dance expression by using the highest firm of flattery: performing it yourself. As a first generation American who has had the pleasure of being influenced by many cultures growing up, I'm very disappointed.
