At least they didn't end on a cliffhanger

Such a shame about what happened to this show. It had a decent enough premise and a good cast, at least in seasons 1 and 2. But the execution was just ok. Then we got season 3, when it went downhill fast. I wish it had been more of an ensemble show instead of just about Megan. Take shows like CSI and Bones. They never had award winning writing but they were fun and you cared about everyone. Unfortunately, all of BOP's characters were only ever plot devices in service to Megan.

I always loved Curtis and Ethan. I liked the cops and Kate in the first two seasons. BOP might have lasted years longer if all of characters were ever developed and got more screen time. Have to say I was a fan of Mark Valley from Human Target, but both his character and his partner's were flat and boring. They didn't add anything to the show. Tommy's whole personality was the guy who had an affair with Megan and who wanted to date her again. His partner secretly/not very secretly having a powerful dad was pretty much his only character trait.

Kate never had anything to do at the start of the show but date Megan's ex and fight with her. Then she had a complete, unfortunate personality change at the start season 3. Her running for Senate came out of nowhere. Much worse, her one ally and mentor was very obviously a sleazy, corrupt villain from the start. She seems to know this the whole time yet stays by him, making her look so desperate for political success that she sells her soul before her career barely starts. Why would viewers continue to like her?

In the end, we had three seasons of characters we barely knew, besides Megan, and who got less and less screen time. There was just too much of Megan teetering around crime scenes dressed like a Desperate Housewife in her 4" heels, carrying her humongous purses, batting her false lashes while telling people off over and over. All other characters were sacrificed eventually while they spent too much time on the mystery of Megan's dad and corrupt city politics. We know none of this was working, since it got canceled.

I gave this episode 5 stars though because at least they didn't end the show on a cliffhanger. I give them credit for that. You want to yell at the screen that no police force would ever believe Megan's story that the Commissioner committed all the murders and how she was randomly saved by a serial killer who then disappeared. But it makes as much sense as some of the other plots this season so they were consistent to the end.
