Pleasence Again Not Pleasant
9 October 2021
Of 451 Armchair Theatre (1956-74) plays there appear to be only a few currently online. It has to be said the picture quality is generally poor but they often feature distinguished actors, and some are very good. For the reviewer there is the bonus of a dearth of other reviewers who have said what you wanted to say.

I've seen eight so far and I rate this the best. Donald Pleasence has played some notably evil characters, Himmler and Dr Crippen being the most infamous. Here he is a lodger who is not as innocuous as he looks, his crimes earning a denouement worthy of a Hitchcock play.

Also worth watching, rating a good 7, is Call Me Daddy. A sort of black comedy in which Pleasence blackmails a younger female typist from his firm to spend a week with him.
