"We are definitely in trouble."

Gee, who came up with the name Delmore Shidski for Jan-Michael Vincent's character? I'm surprised he went along with it. Not only that, but in this picture he could have passed for Tom Cruise. The resemblance was uncanny.

This was a typical kind of vehicle for Burt Reynolds, maybe even more so since he himself was a stunt man before hitting it big as an actor. If you were around in the Seventies, the picture reminds you of his real life relationship with Sally Field; they were a hot item back then with constant mentions in the fan trade. The story line has Sonny Hooper (Reynolds) in a friendly rivalry with Vincent's 'Ski', both of whom eventually team up for a daring canyon stunt that actually belonged to a guy like Evil Knievel. It was a little jarring to hear the stunt crew refer to these jobs as 'gags', as they didn't appear to have anything funny about them. Apart from the stunt work, the boys get a real good workout at the Palomino Club when Hooper's crew tangles with football players led by Terry Bradshaw and Robert Tessier.

The action gets frenetic when the duo film their earthquake scene, dodging all manner of skidding cars and falling debris. The timing of some of those stunts looked like they came down to the last possible minute. It's an entertaining hour and a half for Burt Reynolds fans, and though I enjoyed it, my favorite is still his earlier movie "The Longest Yard".
