Review of Heaven & Hell: Neon Nights, Live in Europe

The last recorded Ronnie Dio performance is a bittersweet thing, but Heaven and Hell play a blistering set at Wacken 2009 - thundering through songs old and new with charm. It's a really lovely show and the band seem in good spirits. On the DVD there are some workmanlike interviews with each member of the group and some brief and rather stirring tributes. It feels somehow both the whole eleven-odd years but also like it was only yesterday, I saw Heaven & Hell only the year before but with the same stage set up, and basically the same setlist so it's a rather cathartic experience on the whole. Heart-warming, but heart-breaking too.
