There You Are, 9-1-1!

Many of the episodes this season have felt like a different show altogether, but this episode--while not my favorite by far--felt familiar. The oil spill emergency at the beginning was well-done; the girls in the car added nice depth to the call, and the team working together to contain the spill and get them out was fun to watch. A bit disappointing that it took up only the first 5-10 minutes or so of the episode, I would have liked to see more.

Bobby and Athena were absolutely phenomenal in this episode; they have such great chemistry, and it sometimes feels like the show underutilizes that, so it was nice to see them happy and in love. Their mystery solving date was too fun--I know people were worried Bobby wouldn't get to do any more mysteries after Michael's departure, but this was very fun to see him and Athena team up!

The 118 scenes were great; Ravi is an excellent addition to the team, and Bobby's advice to Buck was funny and pointed. Hen and her mom's storyline was lovely and well done. I'll never get over how good the casting was for the role of her mother.

Now...the lacking part of this episode has to be the "big reveal" about Taylor's past. First of all, it wasn't shocking at all--one look at the news article she was reading in her last appearance made it clear what her big secret was. The acting, as usual, was subpar. I just cannot find it in me to care about this character, especially after this episode. Which...if giving her a backstory was meant to make us care more, then they've severely failed. I just don't understand why so much time is being given to this character--who tbf is a poor love interest for Buck--but I'm not one of the writers, so I guess I'll never know.

Overall, a good episode. Looking forward to the Christmas episode next week. PS--where are Maddie and Chim? They need to come back ASAP.
