Review of Asylum

Asylum (I) (1972)
6/10
Not one of Amicus' better horror anthologies... but still very watchable.

This film was played alot on TV in the 1980s and 1990s, especially in the U. K., so alot of love and adoration was poured on to this film during it's T. V. period... I myself watched this in my early teens in the 90's, and I remebered it more fondly but a recent view really changed my mind.

I personally rank this one as the 5th best Amicus horror anthology (not as good as "From Beyond The Grave", "Tales From The Crypt", "Dr. Terror's House Of Horrors" or "The House That Dripped Blood"... but better than "Vault Of Horror" or "Torture Garden"). Only the first story really being memorable, the others rank from mediocre to decent.

Overall, if you love just about every 'good' horror anthology (about 25 or so)... then this should be no exception... if you want to see the best of the non-British, non-American bunch... check out "Black Sabbath" from 1963, "Kwaidan" from 1965, "Spirits Of The Dead" from 1968, and "Three... Extremes" from 2005.

Still today, even though it is very dated... it's still very watchable, just don't expect to put it in the Top Class of horror anthologies.
