Decent Corruption Film - The Boss
6 January 2022
There are three great performances in this tale of poor life choices. A returning captain from WW 1 is dealt a pat hand, yet makes a few terrible choices and basically ruins his life. John Payne gives his best performance ever in this film. And the supporting cast are not slouches as well. Gloria McGehee gives a riveting performance as well as the accidental wife. Another strong performance comes from the unheralded and underrated Robin Morse, who gives a memorable turn as a mob man. Although the film has a shaky start, and a rather unbelievable premise, it gradually builds into a strong drama. Well worth viewing.
