Great Showcase for Actors - The Edge of the City
13 January 2022
John Cassavetes and Sidney Poitier show off their great potential in this worthy successor to On The Waterfront. Jack Warden and Ruby Dee also turn in fine performances. The story is told in an understated manner; not with the usual Hollywood hype. The ebb and flow of everyday triumphs and problems come and go like the tide of real life. Everyone has problems. And like the Pointier character says prophetically, you have a choice of living with the higher end of the species or rolling around in the mud with the lower end. A bit stronger ending would have been nice, but the film as a whole is pretty good. Well worth viewing.
