The Walking Dead: Here's Not Here (2015)
Season 6, Episode 4

Strong detour despite the episode timing

We find out Morgan's backstory prior to his arrival at Alexandria.

This episode is frustratingly timed considering the events of the previous three, but it provides an interesting character history and contains two excellent performances.

The Walking Dead frequently portrays characters who are emotionally and psychologically damaged as a result of traumatic events. This one focuses on two characters, their behaviour and a number of dialogue exchanges between the two.

It depicts the very different survival philosophy of the Akido practicing, 'Art of Peace' devotee, Eastman. A lot of prominence is given to the preservation of life and deflection of violence and aggression. Although it is an obscenely ridiculous concept for Morgan to just stumble across this type of individual, it does explain his current state of mind and outlook very well. How life for the character pans out in the future of the show I'm guessing will be heavily linked to this philosophy.

Some of the visuals have good symbolism that work well for the character arcs such as the self imposed prison, Tabitha the goat, and Morgan's spear blunted into a staff by Eastman.

Lennie James and John Carroll Lynch both excel on screen in what is a slow burning story but great insight into characters fighting to regain humanity.
