Two Opposing Ideations Crashed Into Each Other
1 February 2022
There's no denying that it is incredibly distinctive in nature as well as an ambitious take (In terms of filmmaking) in the space of horror (Especially, in regional Cinema). You barely see this kind of subject being dealt with in such a symbolic fashion. Conventional ideas alongside thespian characteristics made Bhoothakalam an interesting proposition on paper. However, the outcome turned out to be quite anticlimactic; at least from my perspective!

The problems mainly appear when these two opposing approaches run into each other's path! On one hand, we get this quite connotative relationship between a mother and her son (Complemented by Revathi and Shane Nigam's terrific performances) that took precedence with deep emotions and applicability of the subject (Clinical Depression). On the other hand, there have been more than a few persuasive attempts to illustrate the same in comparatively related methodologies.

For me, these two ideations contradicted one another and in due course, they ended up hampering the comprehensive prospect of the plot. Despite having a great deal of potential; the inherent qualities the script might have had in its possession didn't evolve in a way I was expecting them to! Gotta admit I'm a little bit disappointed.
