How I Met Your Father (2022–2023)

Consider this Before You Judge so Harshly...

I think the low ratings for this show as a whole are completely uncalled for. You cannot expect this to be a carbon copy of the original with a different cast. If HIMYM resonated with you because it was more relatable to your generation, it's only right that HIMYF caters more to this generation. For the love of everything holy, the original show aired in 2005- almost 20 years ago!

You also can't expect any show to give you Emmy-worthy perfection in a handful of episodes. You have to let the show find it's footing. Even my all-time favorite shows, the ones I believe are perfection, all started on shaky ground for me. I only appreciate the goofiness of the first season after the second or third season.

I too am watching this show because I enjoyed HIMYM, and I am thoroughly enjoying how well it relates to this generation. I don't want to watch a new Ted, Lily, Marshal, Robin, or Barney- they are iconic in their own right and don't deserve a new cast trying to emulate their individual character's magic.

I want a completely different set of characters and situations with a hint of modernized nostalgia here & there, and that's exactly what this show offers (the old apartment, storytelling technique, the search for "the one", friends that are like family, the bar).

If I wanted to see HIMYM again, I'd just rewatch it. If your complaint is that you can't stand this generation and the show is nothing like the original, stop watching, this isn't for you. This show will not give you what you're searching for.

For everyone complaining about the laugh track- go rewatch a few episodes of HIMYM. The laugh-track on there is just as cringy. All laugh tracks are cringy. It's practically their purpose. I wish all laugh tracks were a thing of the past, but alas.

The purpose of this spinoff is to give Millennials the relatable joy that HIMYM gave Gen X and Xennials. Just keep an open mind and let the show develop before you write it off.

As a Xennial myself (gen x-ers on the gen x/millennial cusp), it took me at least two seasons to really start enjoying HIMYM.

I'm loving the fact that I can relate to both HIMYM & HIMYF and I'm excited to see where this show goes.
