It's a werewolf movie based on 18-17th century werewolf lore which is something we haven't seen on the big screen. This new take on werewolf lore is really interesting and the movie explores this concept really well. There are 2 criticisms I have with it, firstly and most detrimental is none of the characters are particularly interesting, the story is really good just not the characters. Secondly they reference the beast of gevudaun (sorry for the misspelling) which happened in the 1760's whilst the movie takes place in the 1880's this wouldn't be a problem if one of the characters family didn't from these attacks.
